Yvonne Cordoba began dance at the age of 8 with Anna Weslin at the Colorado Springs Ballet Academy taking Ballet, Jazz, and Tap. After a brief hiatus in dance and travels to faraway places, Yvonne started to study dance again. After being introduced to Belly Dance Yvonne branched out into other dance forms. Starting at PPCC Yvonne took up Ballet, Modern, Hip-Hop while continuing to deepen her Belly Dance practice. After a desire to understand dance on a global level, she left for India studying Kalbeliya (Indian Folk) Dance for a year amongst the gypsies in the desert. After a short stint teaching Kalbeliya in the Colorado Springs community, Yvonne finds herself again as a student at PPCC expanding her dance knowledge in Modern, Ballet, Ballroom. In her free time she combines everything she’s learning and applies it to her tribal fusion belly dance troupe, “Me’ira”. This is Yvonnes first season with The Bridge Dance Project.
Mike Heinrich has been dancing for about 17 years. Mike has started looking in to Massage therapy for dancers. He loves dancing very much and has danced at several studios including Attitudes Performing Arts Center.In recent months Mike has joined up with OCDC which has been a blast. He is very interested in personal training and message therapy for dancers and athletes. Mike plans to join a Ballet or Modern dance company as a traveling massage therapist.
I have been thinking lately about personal significance. As I sat at my desk re-reading the words on the computer screen I felt a sense of helplessness. I wondered if it really mattered if I was there. With call centers having such a high turnover rate my desk will inevitably be filled immediately after I’m gone. I felt expendable. No one was counting on me to provide for them. I did not feel like I helped anyone by asking them to answer a survey. I was a number in the grand scheme of the corporate machine. My actions did not matter to the rest of the world. I wondered where I would find my significance. When would I go home and be able to rest knowing I made a difference and helped other people. This quest for adequacy drives every one of our actions.
We strive to be noticed and to make a difference. We want to matter to people. At the end of the day every person asks themselves am I good enough? Faced with this question today I came to the conclusion that in order to answer that question we must confirm our worth and confirm the worth of others. When people believe they are wanted and desired their behavior changes significantly. In dance I find that each movement is a statement confirming the worth of ourselves and others. Certain insecurity may manifest but it is our jobs not to let it rest.
Our future is created by the positive words thoughts and actions that flow from our bodies. If we could stop to acknowledge that we are wonderfully made just because of the simple fact that we are human each and every single step we would execute would seem quite significant. Know that you are an individual who does not have a replacement. There are more than 6 billion separate and unique people on the earth who cannot be duplicated. There are no requirements for such an affirmation. Weight, height, age, gender, things that may separate us do not classify us as better or worse. If we rest in the truth that we are wonderfully unique people then there will be peace. There will be no need to accuse, blame, and lash out. Peace will rest in our every moment. Every piece of matter that composes you is significant and has a purpose in life. I find my purpose in my movement.

I believe that movement starts from within. There should be an internal rhythm coerced by music into a manifestation. The thought process should simply depict “being one with the music and movement.” I struggle sometimes, trying to accurately describe what I am looking for when a person reproduces my movement. There is an inner beat that guides me, I focus more on instinct, and do not rely on the formation of actual counts. I am excited to work with dancers and artists who are not afraid to abandon the usual "western" way of looking at dance.
Today I will have the pleasure of working with Yves, a member of The Bridge Dance Project. We will be in the studio working on a dance for camera work titled "awaken". When I choreograph, I try to blend the specific qualities I’ve noticed in a dancer, with my style, and the theme of the piece. Lately, I have been obsessed with burying the past, and I’ve always wondered what that would look like from the perspective of different people. The way I deal with the past is to let it rest in dance, acknowledging the associated feelings and emotions without questioning their validity, and letting them rest where they need to be left. The only way I feel this can be done, is by forgiveness of others and forgiveness of self.
So, for the beginning of “awaken”, Yves will be shot buried in red clay, on location, at Garden of the Gods. The movie will open with a wide shot of a bare landscape with only rocks showing in the distance. It will then pan to a close shot of the ground which will appear to be moving. Yves will be under the soil seemingly invisible until a close-up of her opening her dirt covered eyes. Most of the camera work will be upside down, meaning the camera will be shot aiming down on her. She will do a series of floor work based movements, eventually working her way to standing, then flicking the dust and dirt around sporadically. Because of her belly dance training, Yves is extraordinary at turns, so there will be a host of turns and tumbles. At the conclusion of the piece Yves will bolt off camera. I want the end to be abrupt allowing for an eventual continuation of the story. Who knows, Yves may re-appear in this ongoing quest for forgiveness.

The Bridge Dance Project’s mission is to bring a variety of local college level and professional artists together to produce a collaborative artistic experience. TBDP is primarily focused on dance but feels a dance performance should not exclude other art forms. TBDP would like to bridge the gap between dancers and artists by working together to build a unique performance group. The Bridge Dance Project is a traveling company with 3 full time members and works primarily with local artists in a particular community, focusing on having as many art forms as possible included in each performance. TBDP is looking for local artists to be part of its first Colorado Springs show, which will take place July 28,29 2010 at Pikes Peak Community College.
TBDP is looking for:
2 dancers
Duties: Available for 1-2 weekly rehearsals, dress rehearsal and performance dates. MUST PREPARE A 45 SECOND SOLO. Proficient modern and ballet training. A background in theatre is preferred but not mandatory.
1 Visual and set design artist
Duties: Collaborates with dancers to create stage sets. Visual artist May have opportunity for work to be shown at intermission.
1 Creative writing artist
Duties: Collaborates with dancers to incorporate text throughout the performance.
1 Video cinema artist
Duties: Collaborates with dancers to integrate camera work. Video cinema artist will have the opportunity for work to be shown in a variety of venues.
